About Studio Azzariti
Jennifer Azzariti is a ceramic artist and educator living and working in Washington, DC. Clay has been her focus for more than ten years, evolving from a life-long research of creative materials. Her hand-built, functional objects borrow inspiration and techniques from other material languages, like printmaking and origami, and incorporate sculptural elements inspired by the natural world. Jennifer holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art and completed the Minnesota New Institute for Ceramic Education Program at Northern Clay Center in 2023.
Artist's Statement
My work explores the whimsical realms of memory, found objects, and playful storytelling. I transform collected oddities into fanciful scenes that tap into feelings of nostalgia. Working in an exaggerated scale, I invite viewers to become immersed in these surreal, imaginary worlds.
I breathe new life into objects, using sprig molds as both structural and decorative elements. I find relationships among the eclectic components, creating infinite combinations of texture, pattern, and imagery. The sprigs combine into carefully constructed, fantastical environments populated by biomorphic elements.
I invite viewers to temporarily escape into an intimate world of childlike wonder–to slow down, lean in close, and revel in the tiny details and stories unfolding before their eyes. My work asks us to pause and find amusement in our own imagination.
